Coping with Anxiety
Anxiety is the mind and body’s reaction to stressful, dangerous, or unfamiliar situations. It’s the sense of uneasiness, distress, or dread you feel before a significant event. A certain level of anxiety helps us stay alert and aware, but for those suffering from an anxiety disorder, it feels far from normal – it can be completely debilitating.

Headspace is a meditation app that provides short meditation sessions, usually between 3 to 10 minutes and themed sessions to deal with panic, stress, and anxiety.

University life can sometimes be challenging. That’s why TUS Midlands & Midwest Library have put together a collection of reading materials on a wide range of topics around positive living, personal health and wellbeing.
Quiet Spaces fitted out with specialist furniture, which promotes a sense of calm and reduces anxiety are located in the main campus Library, Student’s Union hub, and Engineering building. These quiet spaces also provide autistic students with a space to escape the loud busy campus when they are experiencing a sensory overload. Have a look at the TUS Midlands Quiet Spaces locations.
The Autism&Uni Toolkit for Midlands and Midwest gives students information and strategies for overcoming the challenges they typically encounter during the transition to University. It is laid out in a logical way offering practical advice and detailed information on the student journey, from thinking about going to University to arranging support with the TUS Disability Support Service.
