Spunout – Text About It 50808 is a free, anonymous, 24/7 messaging service providing everything from a calming chat to immediate support. 50808 provides a safe space where you’re listened to by a trained Volunteer. You’ll message back and forth, only sharing what you feel comfortable with. By asking questions, listening to you and responding with support, they will help you sort through your feelings until you both feel you are now in a calm, safe place.
We know that university life can sometimes be challenging. That’s why TUS Midlands Library have put together a collection of reading materials on a wide range of topics around positive living, personal health and wellbeing.
Whether you’re interested in managing stress and learning some new relaxation techniques, or having more difficult mental heath issues,
there are books here that can help. There are also links to helpful videos and websites in the subject areas.
The collection consists on physical and e-books available to all TUS staff and students to engage with, browse and borrow for themselves.
Hugg is a peer support organisation. We provide a safe, confidential environment in which those bereaved by suicide can share their experiences and feelings, so giving and gaining support from each other. The aftermath of a suicide is shocking, debilitating, surreal, life changing. But you can learn to live with this loss. It is not easy, but we are here to help.People who are suicide bereaved sometimes find it can be difficult for people who have not experienced suicide loss, including professionals, to understand what they are going through. Often the best conversations are had with peers – other people bereaved by suicide. Our support groups are facilitated by people who have been bereaved by suicide. The groups are open, meet fortnightly and are free of charge. You do not have to speak, there is healing in just being with those who understand your pain.
SAMARITANS are available 24/7 for free support by phone 116 123. They provide support day or night, for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure. The Samaritans give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. They encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives. They offer listening and support to people and communities in times of need.
AWARE provides support services to individuals experiencing depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, or other mood related conditions as well as to people who are concerned about a loved one. All three support services are offered free of charge. Support Line and Support Mail are available seven days a week and Support & Self Care Groups take place daily.
Shine is a national organisation providing information and support for people affected by mental health difficulties. They support individuals and family members through: individual and group work, training and education led by professionals and peers (people with lived experience of mental health difficulties or people who have lived experience of supporting a family member or relative).
SPUNOUT provides online information and practical advice created by young people, for young people.
BODYWHYS The Eating Disorder Organization for Ireland offer email and online support groups.
GROW is a national community based organisation providing support and education around emotional and mental wellbeing.
Belong to LGBTQI+ support lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people in Ireland. BeLonG To Youth Services is the national organisation supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI+) young people in Ireland. Since 2003, Belong to have worked with LGBTI+ young people, between 14 and 23 years, to create a world where they are equal, safe, and valued in the diversity of their identities and experiences. They also advocate and campaign on behalf of young LGBTI+ people, and offer a specialised LGBTI+ youth service with a focus on mental and sexual health, alongside drug and alcohol support. They respond to the needs of LGBTI+ young people in Ireland and help them thrive.
