CAgriLab – Virtual Living Lab for regenerative agriculture exchange
CAgriLab is part of ICT-AGRI-FOOD, an initiative to advance the development of a sustainable food system in the EU through digital tools.
As part of the “A Soil Deal For Europe” mission, 100 Living Labs are to be established in the EU by 2030. Each Living Lab will undertake research to advance sustainable agriculture in its region. With advances in remote sensing technologies, AI, big data, field sensors and the IoT, a large volume of complex data is expected to be generated by these labs. CAgriLab aims to allow these labs to share their research with each other seamlessly, as well as with farmers interested in incorporating regenerative agriculture techniques in their practices.
The latest digital technologies, such as Digital Twin technology and Large Language Models will be used to help make this research more accessible to users from any background, including farmers. Low-cost AI-driven soil health tools will also be explored.
CAgriLab will be piloted in Ireland, Finland and Poland.
Project Objectives and Aims:
- Encourage knowledge sharing of regenerative agriculture practices among researchers and farmers
- Develop low-cost AI soil sensors to determine the properties of soil under regenerative agriculture practices
- Foster stronger connections between regenerative agriculture research and farmers
- Help farmers apply research to their specific agricultural environment
- Promote practices that restore soil health and increase biodiversity

Project Key Outputs:
- A digital platform enabling researchers in Living Labs and farmers around the EU to explore and share the latest regenerative agriculture research.
