Sustainable Development is defined as the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland, 1987). Sustainable Development involves three interlinking areas: environmental, socio-cultural and economic development.
Adopted by 193 countries in 2015, the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world’s shared plan to protect the planet, end extreme poverty and reduce inequality. Achieving the goals by 2030 will require brave and creative effort, determination to learn about what works, and agility to adapt to new information and changing trends.
Sustainable Development is at the core of activities within TUS. Here in the Development Unit we strive to use the SDGs as an anchor and touchstone behind our research and development activities.
