Name: Adam Lee
Course: BBus (Hons) in Digital Marketing
Year Graduated: 2024
Brief description of your job.
In my full-time role, I manage social sport content for SPORTbible Ireland, covering all the latest sports-related news from around the country. In addition to that, in the evenings, usually on weekends, I provide match night coverage for League of Ireland fixtures on the official @leagueofireland social channels and I have also covered Ireland’s senior men’s international fixtures on the official @irelandfootball channels, which included Ireland’s recent World Cup qualifying campaign.
Why did you choose your course?
I chose Digital Marketing because I had a strong interest in social media and sports marketing even before I started college. I was really curious about how brands and sports organisations use digital platforms to engage their audiences and build their presence from there. From the open days I attended, TUS Athlone felt like the best place for me to learn more about this field. Once I began the course, it exceeded my expectations. Over the four years I was there, I gained far more knowledge and practical experience than I had anticipated, which not only deepened my understanding of the sports marketing industry but also strengthened my confidence and skills through the modules I did. It also helped that League of Ireland club Athlone Town AFC were in the area and I worked with them during my time in TUS where I was able to put my learnings into practice.
What did you most like about your course?
What I liked most about the course was the supportive and approachable nature of the lecturers. They were always friendly, helpful, and genuinely invested in our progress, which made a huge difference to my overall learning experience. The relationships built between students and lecturers were very positive and encouraging. In fact, I still keep in touch with some of them from time to time, which really reflects the strong sense of community and support within the college.
Apart from your course, what do you like most about TUS?
Apart from the course itself, what I liked most about TUS was the close-knit community. It has a very welcoming atmosphere, and it’s easy to get to know people across different courses and interests. While studying there, I worked on social media and built a new website for Athlone Town AFC (I built the website during one of my TUS modules), which also gave me the opportunity to connect with other TUS students who were also gaining work experience with the club.
How has your degree helped you in your career?
My degree has been incredibly valuable in launching my career. In 2024, I secured a full-time marketing graduate role at SONAS Bathrooms, Ireland’s largest bathroom supplier, and the knowledge and skills I gained during my studies made the transition into the workplace much smoother. I held this role for just over a year, which helped me gain great experience in the bathroom manufacturing industry. In early 2025, I took on a part-time role with the League of Ireland, providing match night coverage for league games, and when LOI clubs play in European action. This role also gave me the incredible opportunity to cover five of Ireland’s senior men’s international fixtures last year. Recently, I started a full-time position with LADbible Ireland as a Junior Channel Manager, where I now manage the SPORTbible Ireland page. Between this and my League of Ireland role, I currently have two paid jobs in social media, all of which trace back to the skills and experiences I gained at TUS.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying this course?
My advice would be to make the most of the resources available to you. Ask the lecturers as many questions as you can, as they are always very helpful and provide the guidance you need to succeed. I would also recommend linking your assignments and projects to topics that genuinely interest you. For me, applying the course content to football made my tasks much easier and more engaging, and it helped me understand the material in a practical, real-world way.
