Collaborating with the TUS Research Office After Identifying a Funding Opportunity

If you’ve identified a funding opportunity you’d like to pursue, your first step is to engage with the TUS Research Support Office (RSO) by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI). This step is essential for all research proposals, regardless of whether you plan to request support from the RSO or not.

Submitting the EOI ensures your project is properly recorded within the university and allows the RSO to determine how best to support your application.

The EOI form gathers key information about your project – your research goals, objectives, estimated budget and funding source, project duration, expected outputs, and any relevant intellectual property details. Once your EOI has been submitted, a Research Support Officer will be in touch to schedule a meeting. This conversation helps define the level of support you might need, and if relevant, explore funding options to assist with developing your proposal, such as Enterprise Ireland Travel Grants or Horizon Europe Coordinator Grants.

It’s important to keep in mind the required timelines for submitting an EOI. For multi-partner projects where TUS is leading, EOIs should be submitted at least 12 weeks before the funder’s deadline. If TUS is participating as a partner, 6 weeks’ notice is expected. For single-investigator or applicant-led proposals, please allow 4 weeks. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in delays and failures in providing supporting documentation and / or endorsements required.

Researchers are also responsible for keeping the RSO informed throughout the process. This includes notifying the office of all proposals submitted and projects that receive funding approval. Final versions of proposals should be shared with the RSO electronically, along with details of any partner institutions and the total amount of funding requested. These details are used to update the university’s research activity database.
