Thinking about studying engineering but want to know what it’s really like? Our Experience Life as an Engineering Student Taster Day gives CAO applicants the chance to step into the shoes of an engineering student for a day at TUS Athlone.
This event is ideal for students interested in Mechanical Engineering, Automation & Robotics, or Polymer Engineering.

Time: 9.45am – 2.00pm
What to expect
During the day, you will:
- Take part in hands-on engineering challenges in our state-of-the-art laboratories
- Design, build and test projects alongside experienced lecturers and current students
- Explore the cutting-edge engineering facilities at TUS Athlone
- Gain real insight into engineering courses, career pathways and student life
No prior engineering experience or specific subject choices are required – just curiosity and an interest in how things work.
TUS Athlone offers Level 7 and Level 8 Mechanical Engineering degrees through the CAO.
Level 7 programmes are delivered via our Engineering Common Entry route. Successful completion of the Common Entry Year allows progression into Year 2 of the following Level 8 degrees:
- Engineering (Common Entry) – BEng
- Mechanical Engineering – BEng (Hons)
- Mechanical Engineering with Energy – BEng (Hons)
- Automation & Robotics Engineering – BEng (Hons)
- Polymer & Mechanical Engineering – BEng (Hons)
