Hi everyone! I’m Sandali, a first-year mechanical engineering student at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS). My journey has been an exciting one so far. Everything about leaving my home country has felt completely different for me including the academic environment and culture. Rather than feeling overwhelmed, I was energized by the new opportunities and challenges that came with moving to a new country for my studies. As the famous quote by Nelson Mandela goes, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This journey is my own small step towards that power, and I’m excited to see where it will take me.
I’m already seeing how TUS turns learning into a hands-on experience. I’m not just sitting in lectures; I’m getting to work with real tools and technology, which makes the technical parts of my studies so much more exciting. From my first few weeks here, I’ve realised how much this practical approach prepares me for real-world challenges. Every project feels like a step closer to the professional I want to become.
What makes this experience even more special is that my father is a TUS alumnus. I’ve heard so much about the university’s positive impact over the years, and now I’m experiencing it all by myself. The same values and dedication that made my father’s time at TUS memorable are still very much alive today. I’ve seen for myself how the university nurtures creativity, innovation, and real-world experience, and it’s been great to live through these benefits as a student. The campus life has also been a pleasant surprise. There’s always something going on, whether it’s a student event, a lecture, or just hanging out with friends between classes. I’ve already joined a few societies and explored Limerick, which has made my life feel balanced between academics and fun. The library and study spaces here are perfect for staying focused and diving into coursework. Whether I’m working on a group project or just need some quiet time, these spaces make it easy to get things done while staying connected to the vibrant campus atmosphere. Outside of my studies, I’ve enjoyed exploring the city, from going to local cafés and attractions to stroll through its picturesque streets. This place has a lot to offer and has been a wonderful way for me to relax while still getting the most out of my time as a student.
I have to say that the support system at TUS has been amazing, including the professors and the staff who are always willing to guide us. Whether it is getting through classes or settling in a new environment, the community is what matters a great deal. Even though I am still discovering everything that TUS has to offer, I already know that this university is more than just an educational space. TUS is a centre for development as well, both personal and professional. The possibilities are endless, and I am looking forward to more as I move on. I’m particularly eager to understand this journey that I am part of and see where it takes me!
If you are thinking of studying abroad, you should definitely choose TUS in Ireland. You can apply for next intake via the Prospect application link and I look forward to meeting you soon.
