This comprehensive four -year honours law degree ensures a critical understanding of the fundamentals of Irish and European Union Law. It covers the traditional core law subjects required for The Law Society of Ireland and The Honorable Society of King’s Inns entry requirements. It is further complemented by the opportunity to take advanced classes in a range of interesting electives that reflect the challenges faced in the modern world, among them, Legal Technology, Environment Law and Intellectual Property Law.
Experiential learning is at the core of this degree, equipping students with essential practical legal skills including legal research, writing, and problem-solving skills. This is bolstered by our on-campus Moot Courtroom, which provides an authentic setting for students to engage with their practical skills. This Moot Courtroom provides a valuable platform for students to understand the dynamics of a real-life courtroom, develop their advocacy and legal reasoning skills and supports the students in developing the skills and confidence for the courtroom environment.
In year 3 there is a one semester work placement in a professional environment which develops workplace and interpersonal skills. This practical experience allows students to apply their legal knowledge in a professional setting and build industry contacts.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in the extra-curricular law related societies such as mooting and negotiation competitions.
Our lecturing staff have professional qualifications as solicitors and barristers and provide the students with the benefit of their practical and real world perspective.
This course has the added benefit of having significant commonality with the first and second years of the Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Business and Law. This will enable students to transfer to Business and Law if they find that they prefer the business elements of the course after year one or year two.
This programme is accredited by the Honorable Society of King’s Inns.
