Brief description of your job: Biotech Production Specialist – Regeneron
Working as part of a team to carry out all tasks necessary for the manufacturing operations of both clinical and commercial manufacturing programs while adhering to safety and GMP requirements at all times. This includes monitoring of production processes, participating in equipment start-up, commissioning, and validation activities.

Why did you choose your course? Growing up, I always loved science and wanted to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Biotechnology with Biopharmaceutical Science combined my love of biology and other disciplines with the chance to make a real difference. Even if indirectly, I knew I could contribute by helping produce life improving medicines here in Ireland’s booming biopharmaceutical industry. This course gave me the broad skillset and deep knowledge base that I needed to pursue a career in this exciting field.
What did you like most about your course?
One of the strong points of the program was its range of subjects, all firmly grounded in the life sciences and biotechnology sector. Beyond the core life sciences of Biology and Chemistry, it delved into practical applications such as Bioanalytical Validation, Bioprocessing, and Mammalian Cell Culture. This well-rounded approach provided me with a robust foundation, opening doors to diverse career paths within the biopharmaceutical industry, including Quality Control, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Process Sciences.
Furthermore, the program’s emphasis on hands-on learning proved invaluable. The numerous laboratory projects, practicals as well as work placement, equipped me with practical skills and instilled a strong sense of confidence, making me well-prepared to pursue a career in industry.
How has your degree helped you in your career?
My degree has given me a deep understanding of subjects which are crucial for working in the Biopharmaceutical Sector. These include Upstream and Downstream Bioprocessing, wide array of laboratory skills and techniques, understanding of the Biopharmaceutical industry landscape, and quality and regulatory compliance aspects.
Also, it has allowed me to work with fellow students together in numerous group projects and presentations enabling me to improve on my communication and collaboration skills which are fundamental in industry.
As such, thanks to its diverse curriculum and hands-on experience, I feel prepared to pursue various career paths within this and other related fields.
