A young woman with long, dark brown hair and freckles smiles warmly at the camera. She is wearing a cream-colored, short-sleeved knit cardigan with dark trim over a black top. A black lanyard with white text that says "ORS" is hanging around her neck. Her hands are clasped behind her back. The background is a blurred indoor setting, possibly an office or modern building, with hints of blue and dark tones.

Name: Siofra Hannon

Course: BBus (Hons) in Digital Marketing

Year Graduated: 2024

Brief description of your job.

I currently work in a multidisciplinary building consultancy. I am on a graduate programme, gaining valuable marketing skills from experienced mentors. My day to day mainly covers, LinkedIn posting, website updates, projects and report writing and graphic design

Why did you choose your course?

I chose to study Digital Marketing as I felt it was an emerging industry to get involved in. From my research the majority of small business owners were aged between 40-55, indicating they may need support digitally and this is where my expertise would come into play.

What did you most like about your course?

I loved the support I received all throughout my journey and still to this day from my lectures, I would like to give a special shoutout to Sinéad O’Connell and Daniel Seery for their continued support. I always felt heard and appreciated with my creative ideas, which provided me with the confidence and tools I needed heading into industry.

Apart from your course, what do you like most about TUS?

I loved the connections and memories I made. Being from Athlone, going into the college experience didn’t excite me with all my secondary school friends heading off from our hometown, but in hindsight it was the best thing for me. I still got to meet amazing people from all across Ireland, still had a great social life, no travel at the weekends and I got to spend time with my family. I truly believe the friends you make in college are friends for life.

How has your degree helped you in your career?

My degree laid out all the essential marketing tools I needed to eventually put into practice. As well as that, it has helped me in high pressure situations, to meet tight deadlines, with collaborative creative discussions, with constructive criticism and has helped to improve my professional communication massively.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying this course?

My advice would be to fully immerse yourself in the course. Ask questions, show genuine interest, and aim to achieve high marks in all continuous assessments. Don’t be afraid to think creatively, no idea is a bad idea if you can support and justify it. On a personal level, make an effort to build friendships. You don’t need a large group, but having even one close
friend in your course who shares your interest in marketing can make a huge difference. Exam and assignment periods can be intense, but having someone who understands the pressure, and who you can exchange ideas and support with, will take you further than you might expect.
