Professor Anthony Caleshu is Dean of Limerick School of Art and Design. Before joining TUS, he was Professor of Poetry at University of Plymouth (2003-2025), where he held a number of senior leadership positions, including: Director of Arts and Culture; Associate Head of School for the School of Society and Culture; Head of English and Creative Writing; and Deputy Director of the Doctoral College (Head of PG Research for Faculty of Arts and Humanities). He has published 5 books of poems and his poetry has been published widely in journals on both sides of the Atlantic, including: TLS, Granta, Poetry Review, Poetry Ireland Review, and Boston Review (as winner of the Boston Review Poetry Prize). He has received funding for his work in Creative Health, including being Principal Investigator of the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council funded project: ‘Poets Respond to COVID-19’, which had a number of creative and critical outputs, including the anthology, Poetry and Covid-19: An Anthology of Contemporary, International and Collaborative Poetry. His critical publications include the monograph, Reconfiguring the Modern American Lyric: The Poetry of James Tate, and, as editor: In the Air: Essays on the Poetry of Peter Gizzi, and Poetry and Public Language. He was the founding publisher/editor of Short Fiction: The Visual Literary Journal, and continues to be publisher/editor of the small poetry press, Periplum.
