Dr. Md. Shaheen Sarkar obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He began his research career as a Research Assistant at Inha University, South Korea (2005–2007), before pursuing a PhD at Nagasaki University, Japan, under the MEXT Scholarship program. He completed his doctorate in 2010, during which he developed first general approach to synthesizing the fostriecin and phoslactomycin families of antibiotics. Dr. Shaheen joined the Green Nanocatalysis Research Team at RIKEN, Wako, Japan, as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2010–2013). He later served as an Assistant Professor at Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Malaysia (2013–2018), where he secured several grants (€120 K) from the Malaysian Ministry of Education and produced three PhD and one Master student. Afterwards he was awarded a prestigious Marie-Curie Fellowship (€262K) at the Bernal Institute, University of Limerick, where he collaborated with Éire Composites. Currently he is serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Applied Science at the Technological University of the Shannon, Ireland. His research focuses on synthetic medicinal chemistry and green catalytic chemistry.
