Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) graduates have the highest employment rate in Ireland for the second year in a row.
According to the recently published 2023 Higher Education Authority (HEA) Graduate Outcomes Survey, 81% of TUS honours degree graduates are employed, significantly higher than the national average of 76.5%. This is the highest employment rate for Level 8 graduates from any higher education institution in Ireland.
Survey results also show that 73% of undergraduates have permanent contracts while the highest number of graduates at TUS earn between €35,000 – €39,000 per annum with almost 5% of TUS Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction graduates started in employment on salaries between €70,000 to 79,999.
The HEA Graduate Outcomes Survey also found that 90% of 2023 TUS taught postgraduates are in employment nine months after graduation, with 90% of TUS research postgraduates also in employment.
Following this success and to further empower students, TUS officially launched its new, university-wide Careers & Employability Service on Monday. The event took place on the TUS Athlone Campus and was attended by students, staff and industry partners including guest speakers MEP Maria Walshe (Midlands-Northwest) and Luke Loughlin, dual Gaelic Games player and Senior Westmeath footballer.
Speaking at the event, Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of TUS said:“This outstanding employability rate is a testament to our students and the quality of education they receive at TUS. We develop our programmes with employers as part of our commitment to ensuring our graduates are as well-prepared as possible to meet the evolving demands of the modern workforce. In doing so, we’re creating a virtuous cycle that develops the regional and national economies”
Dean of Flexible and Work-Based Learning and Director of Industry Engagement, Seamus Hoyne said, “Working with industry partners has been invaluable in shaping Our Careers and Employability Service. Our TUS-wide Careers and Employability service works with our industry partners, our students and academic departments coordinating over 2,500 work placements per year, while ensuring industry can connect with our highly sought after graduates.”
