TUS Global Welcomes 700 International Students at 2024 Orientation Events

From 4th to 6th September 2024, Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) Global hosted its annual orientation across the university’s Midlands and Midwest campuses, welcoming nearly 700 international students from all over the globe. Attendees included students from over 40 nationalities, representing regions such as Southeast Asia, Africa, North America, Latin America, Europe and more. The event marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey for these new students, who will soon be an integral part of the diverse and vibrant TUS community.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, was present to extend a warm welcome to students arriving at TUS’s Limerick campus. The Mayor of Athlone and Municipal District, Councillor Frankie Keena welcomed the new international students to Athlone and highlighted the cultural, historical, business, sporting, tourism amenities, as well as the excellent hotel, restaurants and shopping outlets that the region has to offer.  Also in attendance were representatives from Limerick.ie, highlighting the city’s vibrant culture, student life, and strong ties to the TUS community.

Donnacha McNamara, Vice-President Internationalisation and Alumni, commented:
“We are pleased to welcome students from across the globe to our seven TUS campuses as they embark on their academic journey. As a QS 5 Stars-rated institution for Excellence in Global Engagement, we are committed to expanding our global footprint, enhancing student success, connecting with our alumni, and uniting our students into one vibrant TUS Global Community.”

With more than 250 partnerships worldwide and six in-country offices, TUS Global continues to establish strong international connections. The university’s excellence in global engagement reflects the increasing diversity and talent of the student body, further enriching life on campus and across Ireland. The students arriving from across the world contribute to Limerick’s dynamic cultural landscape, bringing fresh perspectives and skills that will benefit both the university and the wider community.

Gregory van Bursirk, Global Student Experience Officer for the Midwest (Limerick and Environs), added:
“At TUS, we strive to ensure every international student has the support they need to thrive. Orientation is just the first step in what will be an unforgettable and enriching journey for them.”

Eoin Kiveney, Global Student Experience Officer at the Midlands campus, emphasised the importance of inclusion:
“Our aim is to create a community where every student feels they belong. We are excited to see these students grow and succeed, adding their unique voices to our ever-expanding TUS Global family.”

The TUS Global team was on hand throughout the orientation, planning and preparing to kickstart the students’ journey ahead of the semester. With a variety of exciting events, parties, celebrations, and trips planned for the year, our priority remains creating opportunities for students to thrive. It was also wonderful to see past student ambassadors join in welcoming the new cohort, showcasing the supportive and inclusive nature of the TUS community

This orientation week represents TUS Global’s mission to foster international collaboration, student success, and cultural exchange, enhancing the educational experience for all.
