Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has announced new sponsorships to support Gaelic Games in the Midlands.
The university has partnered with Westmeath Camogie as sponsor of the inaugural Westmeath Camogie Intermediate Club Championship – the first competition of its kind to be held in the county.
TUS has also become a sponsor of the Westmeath Senior ladies football team, with the university’s name featuring on the sleeve of the county’s new jersey. As part of the sponsorship, Westmeath LGFA’s Minor players will also have opportunities to participate in workshops and community programmes at TUS.
The sponsorships were announced at the International Arena on the university’s Athlone campus, where representatives from the TUS and the sporting organisations were joined by players from both codes.
These sponsorships build on TUS’s long-standing support for Gaelic Games, which includes sponsorship of the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick and the TUS Clare Senior Hurling Championship. TUS also supports talented student athletes through its Sports Scholarship Programme and CAO Points Waiver Scheme and has a proud sporting pedigree. Earlier this year, TUS Midlands made history by winning the Electric Ireland Freshers Division One Football Championship for the first time.

Jimmy Browne, Chief Operations Officer at TUS, said:
“TUS has a proud tradition of supporting Gaelic Games, and we’re delighted to build on that by partnering with Westmeath Camogie and Westmeath LGFA. As a university rooted in the regions we serve, we are committed to supporting local communities, and we look forward to seeing these partnerships grow in the years ahead.
“We know the positive impact sport has on individuals and communities. Through our scholarships, elite athlete supports and now these sponsorships, TUS is proud to play its part in helping players fulfil their potential both academically and on the pitch.”
Deirdre Clarke, Chairperson of Westmeath Camogie, said:
“Westmeath Camogie is incredibly proud to welcome TUS as sponsor of our first-ever Intermediate Championship in 2026. This is more than a sponsorship – it is a powerful show of belief in our players, teams and community, and a hugely exciting step forward for the future of camogie in Westmeath.”
Geraldine Giles, Chairperson of Westmeath LGFA, said:
“Westmeath LGFA is excited to partner with TUS. We see this collaboration enhancing our visibility and profile within our communities while helping us grow the game. It will provide a greater platform for young women playing our sport and enhance their opportunities to become high-performing young athletes on the inter-county stage.”
Among those attending the launch were: TUS Chief Operations Officer Jimmy Browne; Westmeath GAA Chairperson Patrick Wallace; Darian Corcoran who plays with Cullion GAA in the inaugural Intermediate Camogie Championship; and sisters Sarah and Tracey Dillon.
Sarah is a TUS student and Westmeath Senior footballer, while Tracey works in the Department of Nursing & Healthcare at TUS and also lines out for the Lake County. Together, the sisters helped Westmeath capture this year’s Leinster Intermediate Ladies Football Championship title and are now focusing on the All-Ireland semi-final against Roscommon on July 12.
