On the morning of Thursday, 5th September, Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), and José Miguel García Pérez, Vice-Chancellor of Research, Transfer, and Innovation at the University of Burgos, Spain, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities. The signing took place during the General Assembly of the Regional University Network – European University (RUN-EU), held at the University of Applied Sciences of Vorarlberg, Dornbirn, Austria.
The MOU signifies a commitment from both universities to collaborate on the design of a bachelor’s degree in English for Professionals, Level 7 (NFQ). This flexible, part-time programme will be delivered online by academic staff from both universities. The degree is expected to commence in the 2025/2026 academic year and will be the first jointly taught programme between the University of Burgos (UBU) and a foreign institution.
Simultaneously, the design committee for the Bachelor of Business in English for Professionals, comprising staff from the English Department of UBU, visited the TUS Athlone campus this week. They met with their counterparts from the Faculty of Continuing, Professional, Online, and Distance Learning to design and structure the specific subject areas and modules for the programme.
Through joint online teaching, both universities aim to offer a unique degree within the European educational space and under the RUN-EU framework. The primary objective of this programme is to support Spanish and other non-native English speakers in acquiring advanced English language skills for professional development across various work environments.
