Our modules are open to all staff who teach or support student learning.
Certificate in Team-Based Learning (TBL), June 11 -13, 2025
TBL is a form of active and collaborative learning that uses a special sequence of individual work, group work and immediate feedback to create a motivational framework in which students increasingly hold each other accountable for coming to class prepared and contributing to discussion. TUS was one of the first third level universities in Ireland to adopt the TBL approach within its programmes. The TBL approach aligns with our objectives of helping to develop graduates who excel at critical thinking and problem solving.

Testimonials
As educators, our commitment to continual growth is paramount in fostering vibrant and engaging learning environments, with students firmly placed at the forefront of our teaching. Over time, shifts in political, economic, social, and technological landscapes continually reshape our understanding of student learning. The journey through the modules leading to the MA in Academic Practice presented an invaluable opportunity to refine existing skills while acquiring new ones, blending prior experiences and qualifications. Guided by respected educators such as Eimear Kelly, Catherine O’Donoghue, Dr Geraldine McDermott, and Dr Sarah O’Toole, under the mentorship of Dr Nuala Harding, and administratively supported by Ruth Benson, I was privileged to learn from a cohort dedicated to upholding the professional values of academic practice. Their mentorship not only imparted knowledge but also instilled a commitment to best practices, evident in their adept facilitation and encouragement of active participation. This pathway has been a truly enlightening and rewarding experience, and I am sincerely grateful for the invaluable knowledge and mentorship I have received throughout.
Learning, Teaching and Assessment for Student Engagement
The Learning, Teaching and Assessment for Student Engagement module was excellent. We had a number of lecturers who were experts in their discipline, and this ensured the content was current and focused. The assessment types were varied with great opportunity for feedback from the lecturers and the module Moodle page was packed full of resources and easy to navigate. Peer learning was a key element of the learning process and has greatly widened my professional network.
Embedding Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the Curriculum
The course gave me strategies and techniques to embed ESD across a whole institution. Through a connected curriculum the opportunities to embed ESD across teaching and learning, research and communities has been a transformative experience.
The ESD course enabled me to see the opportunities for integrating sustainability into my professional practice and home life.
The ESD module provided a practical understanding & application of sustainability across a wide range of sectors. The online lectures were interactive and engaging, allowing the learner to enhance their knowledge through peer learning & guest lectures.
I found the module had extensive resources and provided insight into education for sustainable development. I feel more equipped to introduce this aspect into my learning and teaching environment.
A lovely module with engaging content.
Completing the Education for Sustainable Development course has been somewhat of a transformative experience. The module has deepened my understanding of the interconnectedness between environmental, social, and economic sustainability, and has empowered me with some practical tools to drive positive change in my lecturing in this regard. The course content was thought-provoking, and aligned with real-world challenges, making it both relevant and actionable.
I now feel better equipped and more comfortable in promoting sustainable practices within my faculty. I recommend that we make an Education for Sustainable Development Module Mandatory on all first-year programmes.
