Course Overview

To enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to read and write in Irish in a range of everyday communicative contexts, through the development of reading comprehension, written expression, grammatical awareness, and vocabulary, and through engagement with a variety of short texts and writing tasks related to familiar social, cultural, and practical themes to a Level B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  • Comprehension through the Irish Language 

    To enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to read and write in Irish in a range of everyday communicative contexts, through the development of reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and written expression, and through engagement with short texts and writing tasks related to familiar social, cultural, and practical themes.

     

     

  • Minimum Entry Requirements

    Mature applicants (i.e over 23 years) with an Irish Leaving Certificate Pass in Irish
    or
    Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate. Two of these subjects must be Irish and English.
    QQI Level 5 Full award with a minimum of eight modules.

    Candidates are required to have an English requirement: IELTS 6.0/ Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B2
    All applications will be viewed on a case by case basis and may involve an oral interview.

  • This programme will be delivered online though our virtual learning environment.

  • Each 10-credit module normally equates to approximately 200 total learning hours. Total learning hours include the time spent in class, such as lectures, tutorials, and practical elements, as well as time spent working independently outside of college.

    The balance between these varies by discipline and level of study, and learners should be aware that workload will increase at particular times, especially when assignments are due.

  • The programme is assessed through a combination of continuous assessments & project work.
