Click HereThe aim of this programme is to develop learners’ practical proficiency in spoken Irish, with a particular focus on listening comprehension and conversational ability. The programme seeks to enable learners to understand and participate confidently in everyday spoken interactions in Irish, using appropriate pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammatical structures up to a CERF B2 standard. It also aims to foster confidence in communicating in Irish across a range of familiar social and community contexts, while promoting an appreciation of Irish language use and cultural conventions in contemporary settings.
Conversational Irish Language
To enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to understand and participate in spoken Irish in a range of everyday communicative contexts, through the development of listening comprehension, pronunciation, and conversational interaction, and through engagement with practical language activities focused on familiar social, cultural, and community-based topics.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Mature applicants (i.e over 23 years) with an Irish Leaving Certificate Pass in Irish
or
Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate. Two of these subjects must be Irish and English.
QQI Level 5 Full award with a minimum of eight modules.
Candidates are required to have an English requirement: IELTS 6.0/ Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B2
All applications will be viewed on a case by case basis and may involve an oral interview.
This programme will be delivered in an online format.
Lectures will take place online, two evenings per week, with two selected Saturdays per Semester taking place online.
Each 10-credit module normally equates to approximately 200 total learning hours. Total learning hours include the time spent in class, such as lectures, tutorials, and practical elements, as well as time spent working independently outside of college.
The balance between these varies by discipline and level of study, and learners should be aware that workload will increase at particular times, especially when assignments are due.
The programme is assessed through a combination of continuous assessments, examinations & project work.
