This online programme is designed to give learners a solid grounding in the field of project management as applied to the construction sector. The programme is aimed at supervisors and managers in the sector and follows the body of knowledge developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

  • Construction Project Management (10 ECTS)
    The ability to manage projects is a key skill for construction professionals. Project Management, as an academic domain, has evolved from a process-driven approach to a value-driven approach. Construction has also evolved to include deeper integration of digital technologies into the delivery process. This module provides learners with the traditional skills of the project manager, and the digital skills now necessary for the construction sector. This is underpinned by a clear focus on generating value for clients, contractors, and the wider community.

    Introduction to Project Management:

    Project Management in Context/Value Delivery/Process and Value Driven Approaches

    Project Management Principles:

    Stewardship/Team Stakeholders /Value / Leadership, Systems Thinking/ Tailoring/Quality/Complexity/Risk/Adaptability & Resilience/Change

    Project Performance Domains:

    Stakeholders/Team/Development Approach & Life Cycle/Planning/Project Work/Delivery/Measurement/Uncertainty

    Tailoring:

    Development Approach/Project and Organisational Factors/Performance Domains

    Models, Methods, and Artifacts:

    Common Models/Data & Analysis Models/PM Artifacts

    Integrated Project Delivery:

    Process Integration/Organisational Integration/Data Integration and Collaboration/Contractual Frameworks and Principles

  • Mature applicants (i.e. aged 23 years on 1st January of year of entry for admission in September)

    Minimum entry requirements are Grade OD3 or higher in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate.

    English Language: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a score of 5.5 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a score of 6.0 in an IELTS or equivalent exam is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements. Please note that we do not request proof of English language qualification or proficiency.

    Knowledge of building design and construction is also desirable.

     

  • Monday evening – 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

    Modules are to be delivered over 10 weeks in an online learning format.

    Start Date

    There will be an online welcome session for all students on 9th September 2026.

    Classes will commence on Monday 14th September 2026.

    The proposed delivery schedule is subject to change.

  • Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.

  • Continuous assessment (100% online). No end of semester exams.

  • Certificate in Construction Project Management  (Special Purpose Award, Level 6, 10 Credits)

  • The fee is €950 and is part funded by the DASBE Initiative (HEA HCI Funded) for eligible applicants in 2026.

    Successful applicants will qualify for €417 in funding towards the cost of the programme. The balance of €533 will be payable by the applicant upon registration.

    Funding is limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis to eligible applicants.
