Course Overview

The aim of this programme is to equip students with a foundation in business principles while simultaneously enhancing their English language proficiency. Designed for non-native English speakers, this special purpose award integrates language acquisition with business studies, ensuring graduates are equipped to effectively communicate, collaborate, and take up employment in global business environments. Graduates will develop key competencies in areas such as time management, marketing, finance, and cross-cultural communication, preparing them for roles in diverse, multinational organisations or further academic pursuits in business. This programme will be delivered online and part-time through an innovative and interactive online learning environment. It utilises highly participatory learning and teaching pedagogy. The flexibility and agility of this programme, will allow learners to undertake the core modules that will give them the necessary skills and competencies which are required in a variety of business roles.

  • Fundamentals of English 1 (B2.1 Intermediate User) 

    This is the first of three progressive modules designed to guide students from an intermediate level to upperintermediate
    proficiency. Aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), this
    module serves as a reinforcement of language skills at the outset of the programme, ensuring that all students
    consolidate and further develop their B2/IELTS 6.0-level competencies. It is designed to facilitate steady progress by
    strengthening foundational skills, preparing students to advance to higher levels of proficiency and ultimately become
    independent users of English. Students will enhance their ability to comprehend the main points of complex
    communications across a range of familiar, professional, and technical topics. Through a variety of activities, they will
    practice listening, speaking, reading, writing, and mediation skills in order to achieve greater fluency and confidence in
    real-life scenarios.

    Intercultural Communication

    This module introduces students to the use of the English language in intercultural settings, presents the phenomenon of English as a global language, delves into the complexity of this phenomenon, and its applications in different settings. Also, it addresses the many contexts and
    situations English is used for intercultural communication. Added to that, practical study cases and cultural products are presented and analysed. Real-life situations are provided for problem solving. On completion of the module students will develop a comprehensive understanding of intercultural communication and the appropriate uses of English in intercultural settings.

     

     

     

     

  • Minimum Entry Requirements

    Mature Applicants (i.e over 23 years)

    or

    Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at Ordinary Level in five subjects. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish)

    or

    QQI Level 5 full award with a minimum of eight modules.

     

    Candidates are required to have an English requirement: IELTS 6.0/ Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B2

  • This programme will be delivered online though our virtual learning environment.

  • Each 10-credit module normally equates to approximately 200 total learning hours. Total learning hours include the time spent in class, such as lectures, tutorials, and practical elements, as well as time spent working independently outside of college.

    The balance between these varies by discipline and level of study, and learners should be aware that workload will increase at particular times, especially when assignments are due.

  • The programme is assessed through a combination of continuous assessments & oral presentations.
