Applied Entrepreneurship and the Irish Enterprise Ecosystem
This module aims to equip adult students with a practical and reflective understanding of the entrepreneurial journey, from entrepreneurial mindset to identifying opportunities and shaping ideas to developing viable value propositions and pathways to commercialisation. Students will explore the evolving nature of entrepreneurship, the challenges entrepreneurs face, and the support mechanisms available within entrepreneurial ecosystems in Ireland, while applying learning to their own ideas or venture concepts. This module introduces students to entrepreneurship as a dynamic journey rather than a linear process. Through a combination of conceptual inputs, real-world examples, and applied activities, students will examine how ideas emerge, evolve, and translate into entrepreneurial action. The module emphasises opportunity recognition, problem–solution fit, value creation, business modelling, and early commercialisation decisions, alongside personal development as an entrepreneur. By the end of the module, students will have developed a structured understanding of the supports and pathways that can help progress a business idea.
