As a company dedicated to developing the next generation of skilled electricians, H&F Electrical Contractors Limited is proud to have 8 apprentices successfully graduate from the 12-week Access to Apprentice Course at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), led by Pat Galvin and Susan Meagher. This course has been a game-changer for both our apprentices and our organisation. The success rate of the students we have taken on is very high, and their exposure to different trades during the programme has allowed them to discover their interests and clarify what they want to pursue in their careers.
Pat Galvin and Susan Meagher have had an incredibly positive impact on the students, not only through their expertise but also through their genuine care and dedication. Their hands-on approach and encouragement have inspired the apprentices to excel and grow in confidence. Their excellent engagement with our company has been key in ensuring a seamless collaboration, making it easy for us to integrate the graduates into our workforce and support their development.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the programme is its impact on students from disadvantaged backgrounds. It’s inspiring to see our current apprentices, who graduated from the course, becoming role models in their communities. Their success has not only transformed their own lives but has also encouraged others to pursue similar opportunities. At a recent event, many of the new students mentioned that they personally know past students from the course now working with our company and are eager to follow in their footsteps. This sense of aspiration and connection is truly heartening.
The “speed dating” event, where employers meet the young students, is a brilliant way to engage with potential apprentices and assess their fit within the company. Moreover, the two-week trial period has been excellent in providing both students and employers a real-world experience before committing to a longer-term placement. This hands-on approach has consistently resulted in positive outcomes for us.
The 12-week Access to Apprentice Course has been instrumental in bridging the gap between education and industry, equipping young people with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed. We are proud to support this programme and highly recommend it to any business looking to make a meaningful impact on the future of their workforce.
