Rural Exchange: Market Gardening finding a fit in Agri-Food systems

Let’s talk about market gardening, regenerative agriculture and the future of our local food

On 5 November, we’re heading to Mitchelstown for Rural Exchange, and there’s plenty on the agenda!

Market gardening can do much more than supply fresh local produce. Done well, it can create viable rural businesses, support healthier soils, make better use of resources and reconnect communities with where their food comes from.

We’ll hear from local growers, farmers, researchers and people working in the food sector about what it takes to grow, sell and support local food and regenerative food chains.

From the challenges of running a market garden to finding new ways of working with local businesses, we’re looking forward to hearing different experiences and ideas around regenerative agriculture.

What we’ll explore:

  • Improving resilience in production – Practical approaches to cover crops, drought resilience, soil health and water management.
  • Making the business model work – Smarter routes to market, collaboration opportunities and more viable market gardening models.
  • Building local food networks – Stronger connections between growers, food businesses and local food networks.
