Dr Thiago Braga Rodrigues is a Lecturer/Researcher in the Department of Computer and Software Engineering and Principal Investigator of the Sensing Engineering Technology Laboratory (SET-Lab). He holds a PhD in Software Engineering (ICT/Biomechanics) from Athlone Institute of Technology—funded by the Irish Research Council and Government of Ireland—with prior research fellowships at Harvard Medical School and Wayne State University.
His research pioneers human-centred sensing, closed-loop cybernetics, and machine learning to quantify, model, and enhance complex motor performance across digital health, rehabilitation, and high-dexterity disciplines. He has secured competitive national and international research funding (including CNPq/MCTI and IRC) and leads a multidisciplinary team of doctoral researchers developing real-time biomechanical assessment and adaptive feedback platforms.
Uniquely bridging engineering with elite artistic execution, Dr Rodrigues combines biomechanical and sensing expertise with formal classical music training (conservatory-trained violinist). This dual competence affords exceptional domain grounding for modelling motor invariants, neuromuscular synergies, and predictive temporal dynamics. His research is widely published across premier IEEE, ACM, and biomedical engineering venues.
