Two former plumbing apprentices at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) are to compete at WorldSkills Ireland 2026 after emerging as winners at the regional heat held at the Athlone campus.
Daniel Herlihy, from Rathmore, Co. Kerry, completed Phase 6 of his plumbing apprenticeship training at the Athlone campus, while Harry Minogue, from Gort Co. Galway, completed Phase 4.
Both apprentices demonstrated outstanding technical ability, dedication and professionalism during the competition and will now progress to WorldSkills Ireland, which takes place at the RDS in Dublin from September 16th to 18
The plumbing competition at the Athlone campus of TUS is supported by Flogas as part of its commitment to supporting skills development and the training of the next generation of plumbing professionals.
Francis Rushe, Lecturer at TUS, congratulated the two apprentices on their achievement.
“Daniel and Harry performed exceptionally well throughout the competition and their success reflects the skill, commitment and professionalism they have demonstrated during their apprenticeship training. We are very proud to see them progress to WorldSkills Ireland, where they will have the opportunity to test their skills alongside some of the best young tradespeople in the country. WorldSkills competitions provide apprentices and learners with an opportunity to demonstrate their expertise in their chosen trades and disciplines, while showcasing the high standards of technical and vocational education and training in Ireland.
