Postgraduate Disability Support

Postgraduate study can bring new academic demands and changes in how you manage your learning. If you are registered with the Disability Support Service, we encourage you to meet with us to review your supports and discuss any changes to your needs.

Managing the Transition

The transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study can bring changes in how you learn, organise your work and manage your time. Depending on your programme, postgraduate study may involve more independent learning, extended research and writing, fewer fixed deadlines and greater responsibility for planning your own workload.

It can help to:

  • use a planner or calendar to keep track of deadlines, meetings and important dates;
  • break big pieces of work into smaller steps;
  • set your own mini deadlines for longer pieces of work;
  • set aside regular time for reading, research and writing;
  • keep notes from meetings with your supervisor, including feedback and what you agreed to do next;
  • ask for support early if you are finding postgraduate study difficult.

Talk to Disability Support

If you are registered with the Disability Support Service, we encourage you to meet with us as you move into postgraduate study. Your existing supports may continue to work well, but your needs may change as the demands of your programme change.

We can review your reasonable accommodations with you and discuss any new challenges or support needs.

To arrange a meeting or contact the Disability Support Service, email disability.midlands@tus.ie.
