Graphic Design Art Competition

Graphic Design and the Student Resource Centre TUS ATHLONE LAUNCHES 50TH ANNIVERSARY ART COMPETITION

As part of Graphic Design Athlone’s 50th Anniversary celebrations,  TUS has launched a special Art Competition inspired by the remarkable life and work of Mary Ward (1827–1869) Irish artist, scientist, author, and pioneer.

Open to all TUS Athlone students, ARTC and AIT graduates and alumni, and Athlone campus staff, the competition invites participants to create an original artwork exploring the relationship between art, science, creativity, observation, experimentation, and innovation.

Mary Ward’s life and work exemplified the powerful connection between creativity and scientific discovery. Through this competition, participants are encouraged to respond to her legacy through their own unique creative practice.

The competition offers a €1,000 prize fund, with the winning artwork becoming part of the TUS Permanent Art Collection and permanently displayed in the new Mary Ward Science Building.

The initiative is a collaboration between Graphic Design TUS Athlone and the Student Resource Centre, and forms part of a wider programme of events celebrating 50 years of design education in Athlone.

To enter, participants should download the competition brief, complete the online entry form, and submit their artwork by 1 October 2026.

Full details, the competition brief, and entry form are available here.

Create. Discover. Imagine. Leave your mark on the next chapter of the TUS Art Collection.
