Module Overview

This module aims to give the learner a thorough introduction to the conversion of wind energy into electrical energy.
Having successfully completed this subject the learner will be able to:
1. Evaluate the wind resource at any given site
2. Predict the output of a wind turbine at a site
3. Specify and assess the viability of wind turbines for various applications
4. Understand the construction and operation of both large and small-scale wind turbines
5. Discuss the potential environmental impacts of wind turbines
6. Explain the regulations governing the erection and operations of both large and small-scale turbines in Ireland
7. Outline the stages in the development of a large-scale wind energy project
