Click HereThis programme introduces learners to key cybersecurity concepts and threats. Learners will examine examples of real cyberattacks, understand how cyberattackers operate, and discover the tools and techniques used to protect data and systems. The module combines lectures, informal discussions and interactive activities to help learners apply what they learn. Learners will gain the confidence to navigate the digital world more securely, develop safer online habits and understand the importance of cybersecurity in workplaces, communities and everyday life.
By the end of the programme, learners will:
– Understand core cybersecurity concepts and terminology
– Recognise common cyber threats and vulnerabilities
– Gain awareness of tools and basic defensive practices
– Understand key legal and regulatory frameworks (Irish/EU context)
– Apply cybersecurity principles in personal and organisational contexts
Fundamentals of Cybersecurity
This course introduces learners to key cybersecurity concepts in an accessible way. Learners will examine examples of real cyberattacks, understand how cyberattackers operate, and discover the tools and techniques used to protect data and systems. The module combines lectures, informal discussions and interactive activities to help learners apply what they learn. Learners will gain the confidence to navigate the digital world more securely, develop safer online habits and understand the importance of cybersecurity in workplaces, communities and everyday life.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Mature Applicants (i.e over 23 years)
or
Leaving Certificate Grade O6 at Ordinary Level in five subjects. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish)
or
QQI Level 5 full award with a minimum of eight modules.
or
Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)
Candidates are required to have an English requirement: IELTS 6.0/ Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) B2
This programme will be delivered online though our virtual learning environment.
Each 10-credit module normally equates to approximately 200 total learning hours. Total learning hours include the time spent in class, such as lectures, tutorials, and practical elements, as well as time spent working independently outside of college.
The balance between these varies by discipline and level of study, and learners should be aware that workload will increase at particular times, especially when assignments are due.
The programme is assessed through a combination of case study evaluation and a problem based learning report.
The full course fee is €950. Eligible learners may qualify for funding support of 80% via the Micro-Credentials Learner Funding Subsidy, subject to eligibility criteria. For full details see www.springboardcourses.ie
