The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has reinforced its commitment to fostering an inclusive research environment by becoming one of eleven leading European institutions to sign a joint declaration of principles supporting gender parity in research and innovation.
TUS, a recent winner of the prestigious European Gender Equality Prize in the Newcomer category, joined ten other Award winning European research institutions in signing the declaration on October 27, 2025. This landmark initiative aims to embed gender equality principles into international research collaborations, signalling a strong, unified European position on this critical issue.
Advancing Women in Academia
The joint declaration emphasises the vital link between gender parity and the quality of global research. It states:
“Attracting more women to academic careers and ensuring the highest standards of research quality are essential to strengthening the role of science in addressing societal and economic challenges. To achieve this, it is vital that we continue to integrate gender equality into European and international cooperation.”
Given global challenges to gender parity initiatives, this European alliance—which includes TUS—sends a powerful, united message. By integrating initiatives promoting parity into its international collaborations, TUS contributes to a collective effort that aims to inspire scientific institutions worldwide.
