Brief description of your job: Clinical Engineer
Why did you choose your course?
Growing up, I’ve always been fascinated by the interaction of the human body and the machines being used to treat disease. I choose Medical Technology because it combines my passion for science with my interest in engineering.
What do you like most about your course?
The blend of science and technology but also the hands on skill and experience I gained. These skills enabled me to confidently work with professionals even as a junior engineer.
Apart from your course, what do you like most about TUS?
Apart from my course,I loved the cultural diversity on campus. I got to meet people from all over the world, learn about new cultures and build friendships. The lecturers were also amazing, knowledgeable and willing to help, which in turn encouraged my personal academic growth.
How has your degree helped you in your career?
My degree first of all equipped me to stand out during the interview stage, I was confident and well prepared especially when it came to answering technical questions. Currently in my role as a Clinical Engineer working with LINACS, most of the tasks I encounter aren’t foreign to me.
Did you take part in any clubs and societies or any other programs while at TUS? How did you enjoy it?
During my time at TUS, I was actively involved in the Christian society, Motor sport club and African society. They all gave me a sense of community and it was a great way to meet people outside my course.
What advice would you give someone considering studying this course?
My advice to anyone considering Medical Technology, is to go into it with commitment. It is a course that will challenge you academically while giving you practical skills that would be applicable in the real world. Take full advantage of the facilities the school has put in place to help students, like outside normal hour one on one tutoring. Finally, don’t be afraid to ask your lecturers for help, they were always there for me when I needed it.
