The Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD), part of Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), is proud to announce its highly anticipated 2024 Christmas Showcase, running from December 3 to 23. This vibrant exhibition takes place in the former Debenhams building in Limerick City, transforming the iconic space into a hub of artistic expression.
Showcasing the work of more than 100 talented artists, the exhibition offers a dynamic mix of mediums including fashion, ceramics, fine art, photography and sculpture. Featured artists include Ann McBride, Lidija Savickaite, Gavin Hogg, Frank McCarthy (representing Paint Punch), Tina O’Connell, Shane Vaughan of Limerick Printmakers and many more.
The Christmas Showcase is a unique opportunity for the public to engage with the incredible diversity and creativity of the region’s art community. From cutting-edge contemporary works to traditional crafts, the exhibition highlights the depth of talent nurtured at LSAD and beyond.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, said: “Limerick City and County Council is delighted to support the Limerick School of Art and Design’s Christmas Showcase 2025 at the heart of our city. The transformation of the unoccupied Debenhams building into a vibrant pop-up gallery is a wonderful initiative that brings much-needed life and creativity to this important part of Limerick. This showcase not only celebrates the incredible talent of LSAD students and alumni but also fosters community engagement and festive cheer.
“I encourage everyone to visit and experience the unique cultural offerings, support our emerging artists, and enjoy the festive events that will animate our city centre this holiday season. This project aligns closely with the vision for More Culture, Visual & Performing Arts as outlined in Limerick’s Mayoral Programme. Instead of the arts being largely hidden away from view, we have a much more visible celebration of the arts.”
Lidija Savickaite, head of the LSAD Exhibition Society, emphasised the importance of the upcoming Christmas Showcase: “The LSAD Exhibition Society was founded to give students a platform to present their work and learn to curate and exhibit in new spaces. After two successful showcases at the Crescent Shopping Centre, we aimed for something even bigger this year. Thanks to the support of TUS faculty, especially Eleanor Moloney, we secured the former Debenhams space in the heart of Limerick city. Transforming this derelict building into a creative hub.
“This showcase unites current students, alumni, and faculty, while spotlighting the work of LSAD and our partner societies like the LSAD Photography Society. This isn’t just an exhibition; it’s about bringing great minds together, working collaboratively, and seeing what we can create in such a large space. This event will bring the Limerick community together and give our artists the chance to sell their work and gain recognition. I’m excited to reopen the doors of Debenhams and show that these derelict buildings can become amazing community spaces and creative hubs.“
Mike Fitzpatrick, Dean at Limerick School of Art and Design, added: “It’s great to showcase work in the heart of Limerick, already there is great interest in seeing the art work and stepping inside this major landmark store in the city.”
The LSAD Christmas Showcase is free and open to the public, providing the perfect way to embrace the holiday spirit while supporting local art and culture. The event is organised by the Exhibition Society at LSAD and supported by Limerick City and County Council as well as Forge Design Factory.
