Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) was awarded an institutional Athena Swan Bronze Award in the summer of 2024, our first such award as a Technological University. Members of the TUS Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) office and TUS Athena Swan Self Assessment team collected the Award at a national level ceremony in Trinity College Dublin.
To celebrate this achievement and acknowledge the support of the Self-Assessment Team (SAT) throughout the process, the EDI office hosted a celebratory event in TUS Moylish campus which was attended by TUS President Vincent Cunnane, members of the SAT, members of Human Resources and special guests including Professor Audrey O’Grady, Associate Professor from Department of Biological Sciences, UL, and Chair of the UL Departmental SAT.
Speaking at the event, Professor Cunnane reflected on achieving the TUS Athena Swan Bronze Award and the EU Gender Champion Newcomer Category Award. He congratulated the TUS Athena Swan Self Assessment Team: “I want to commend you all for your commitment, your insights and your willingness to engage in the in-depth Athena Swan process to support our achievement of this TUS Athena Swan Bronze Award.”
The President finished by acknowledging “the work that is still ahead,” in implementing our action plan to ensure that TUS will be a place where equality is not just a goal, but a lived reality for all.
