My Journey from TUS Student to International Society Leader.

Coming to TUS was a decision I will never regret. I arrived during the covid period in 2020 and my first and second year consisted of mostly online lectures so I couldn’t really meet and socialize with any other students during that time. However, in my third year I volunteered to help in the international student orientation and that was how my university life took off. Shortly after the orientation I became the vice-president of the TUS Limerick international society and met so many intriguing people and partook in so many crazy events.

I later went on to become the president of the society in my 4th year as well as the student union International Student officer, and by the end of it all I can confidently say I had grown as a person. I went from having difficulty talking with people and making friends to being the point of contact for most students on campus. The friends and acquaintances I’ve made at TUS continue to aid me and provide great support to this day.

My academic life was also one I will always look back on fondly because of my supportive lecturers, friendly course mates and dedicated supervisor. Because of them (and a lot of effort on my part) I was able to win the 3rd place award for my third-year individual project, first place in my final year dissertation and I finished my degree with First-class Honours. Now I work as a graduate facilities engineer at Intel and am very happy with my choices in life so far.

I hope any incoming students and current students will be able to fully utilise TUS for all it’s worth and have fun doing it. Always strive to go out of your comfort zone and persevere to make every opportunity a good one that will benefit you in the long run.
