Damien works as a lecturer and course leader on the Applied Sports Science course at the Technological University of the Shannon (Midwest). Damien completed his Ph.D. in 2019, where he investigated the match-play demands of hurling. He is one of the leading researchers in the area and has published numerous studies in Internationally recognised journals.
A former Tipperary hurler, he has been involved in the Tipperary senior hurling backroom team since 2008. Since then, he has been the lead performance analyst for the senior hurling team. In recent times, his role has expanded to monitoring the physical demands of training and match-day through GPS technology.
Damien is a Level 4 GAA analyst and has assisted in the delivery of performance analysis training for the GAA. He is a qualified Level 2 GAA coach and a Level 2 Sport Ireland Coach Education Developer and Assessor. Damien has developed coaching related material across the technical, tactical and physical demands of the game. He has also written the Level 1 and 2 coach education courses for the Camogie Association.
