Frank Houghton

Frank is a Public Health Geographer with experience of working in Ireland, the UK, New Zealand and the US. He is the inaugural Director of Social Sciences ConneXions, one of the eight Research Institutes at TUS. He was formerly Chair & Tenured Associate Professor of Public Health at Eastern Washington University (EWU) in Spokane, WA. Frank has a strong interest in research and has published over 150 pieces in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests are diverse and include: Public Health; GIS; Health Equity; Tobacco, Alcohol & Gambling Control; Data Suppression; Libraries; Therapeutic Landscapes; and Gender Discrimination. Frank has a strong interest in Research Ethics. He was appointed by the Minister for Health as a member of the National Research Ethics Committee for Medical Devices (NREC-MD), and was a founder member of the LIT Research Ethics Committee. Frank is a former Board Member of Spokane AIDS Network (SAN) and is currently a Board Member of Limerick Community Education Network (LCEN). He was Independent Chair of the Mid-West Traveller Health Forum for approximately nine years. Frank holds a PhD in Health/ Medical Geography and 5 Masters degrees.
