Dr. Mairéad Cantwell is a lecturer, and course co-ordinator, in the Department of Sport and Health Sciences at TUS. Mairéad has worked as a clinical exercise physiologist in Ireland, the UK and Australia where she gained extensive experience in cardiac, pulmonary and oncology rehabilitation in both hospital and community-based settings. Mairéad completed her PhD in Exercise Oncology at DCU. Her PhD was funded by the Irish Cancer Society and Mairéad was the recipient of the Irish Cancer Society’s First PhD Researcher of the Year Award.
Mairéad began her current role at TUS in 2018. Mairéad’s research focuses on the role of exercise in the treatment and management of chronic disease, with a particular focus on cancer in both youth and adult populations. Her work aims to inform policy and practice in the use of exercise in cancer care through innovative and translational research. Mairéad is a member of EasCaR, the Exercise and Cancer Research Consortium, along with colleagues from DCU and The South East Technological University (SETU – Waterford). EasCaR is a vibrant research group who aim to achieve academic and societal impact in the area of exercise oncology.
