The first cohort of students to complete the inaugural Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) Employability Plus Award 2021/22 were recognised at a special ceremony held by the Careers & Employability Service, TUS Midwest on May 6th.

Students from a range of academic programmes and campuses were presented with their Award Certificate by President of TUS Professor Vincent Cunnane.

The Employability Plus Award recognises the personal and professional development a student gains from their involvement in employability activities. Throughout the programme, participants engaged in self-assessment, networking opportunities with employers, attended employability skills workshops and completed work experience.

Aoife Prendergast, Careers & Employability Manager at TUS Moylish Campus said: “The TUS Employability Plus Award epitomises and recognises the learning and development opportunities for students to identify and fulfil their potential here at TUS. This award is key to fulfilling our promise of employability to all students and acknowledges the development and enhancement of students’ employability skills through a combination of activities from work placement, employer engagement and extra-curricular activities. Activities run throughout the year, giving students access to undertake the award at times that are suitable for them articulating student’s unique offering to future employers.”

Joanne Holland, Career Officer at TUS Moylish Campus, who mentored the students explained that: “Students completed activities to explore and understand their own individual profile and strengths, became familiar with the market by attending employer events, sharpened their skills by attending skills development workshops, participated in mock interviews and attended one-to-one support appointments with the service and successfully gained work placement while also reflecting on their learnings.

Students who successfully participated said:

From participating in the Employability Plus Award I have learned so much about myself, about certain jobs, and workplaces, and what to expect, as well as learning valuable information and tips that will help me to secure my dream job in the future”.

The Employability Award has been incredibly helpful for me throughout the year. The programme has provided me with knowledge and has opened possibilities and opportunities that I otherwise wouldn’t have known were there for me.”

We wish to congratulate the participants and wish them every success in their future endeavours.
