Nine Transition to Higher Education Programme students were honoured at a unique graduation ceremony today, Thursday, July 21, at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) Moylish Campus.
Now in its sixth year, the programme hosted an in-person ceremony for the first time since 2019, due to Covid-19 restrictions, with families of all nine students present to witness the awarding of their certificates.
Over 92 percent of graduates from the Transition to Higher Education 2020/21 cohort progressed to undergraduate programmes in September 2021 in TUS Midwest.
Set up in 2017, the Certificate in Transition to Higher Education programme provides a pathway for adults who experience severe social, economic and/or educational disadvantage to engage in a supportive and structured third level academic foundation programme.
The programme consists of 24 weeks of lectures in core modules such as Mathematics, Computer Applications, Personal Development and Learning & Academic Skills Development.
The programme promotes a structured, supportive learning environment where students can prepare for progression to full-time study. It recognises that students who may have exited formal education at an early juncture may require additional support, and subsequently a holistic suite of offerings are in place, such as the inclusion of additional learning support, CAO and SUSI guidance, disability support, and mentoring.
