On Saturday November 12, 2022, the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) Thurles campus will present an open day that is reflective of a changing era in education.
In a first for the campus, TUS Thurles Open Day is opening up to all learners from CAO applicants to flexible learners, PLC students to those returning to education later in life.
Joining the traditional CAO undergraduate course information stands and demonstrations will be information on flexible learning courses, along with an opportunity to learn about the research and development activities taking place in Thurles.
From 11am to 1pm visitors to the TU will have the opportunity to meet lecturers and students and learn more about the extensive study opportunities available at TUS Thurles campus.
TUS Student Recruitment and Engagement Officer Ann McBride said, “We are delighted to expand our Open Day this year in Thurles. As well as introducing flexible learning courses to the event, we are also introducing three new degrees which will be on the CAO for September next year. These include the very popular Agricultural Science and Sustainability level 7 and 8 in conjunction with our partners in Gurteen College. Graduates of this course will also receive their Green Cert. We will also be introducing two new level 8 honours degrees in Sports Science – Applied Sports Science with Performance Technology and Applied Sports Science with Strength & Conditioning, both courses include work placement, Erasmus opportunities and access to the state of the art UPMC Sports Medicine Clinic.”
Meanwhile Seamus Hoyne, Dean of Flexible and Work Based Learning, Head of Centre Thurles said, “Thurles campus provides a breath of learning opportunities across a range of disciplines and we provide a variety of learning pathways. As well as our CAO programmes we have a wide range of part-time, blended and on-line programmes through our Flexible Learning Department. If you are looking to up-skill or re-skill, or haven’t been in a learning environment for a number of years, we look forward to mapping out a learning pathway for you. Flexible Learning programmes in construction, energy, aviation, accountancy, manufacturing and engineering are just some of the programmes on offer from the Thurles campus.
