The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and MBE Skillnet have signed a funding agreement to increase the supply of graduates with technical skills in data analytics and digital marketing in the Midland, Border and East regions.

Under the agreement, MBE Skillnet, a business support network aimed at helping businesses identify and fill their skill gaps, will part-fund places on TUS’s MSc in Data Analytics and PgDip in Digital Marketing programmes, which are enrolling now for January 2023.

The MSc in Data Analytics, which has been designed for those working with increasingly complex volumes of data, will be delivered entirely online, two evenings per week, to fit around busy schedules.

“We are delighted to work with Midland Border East Skillnet for part funding of student fees on this programme, which we hope will make an already established and successful programme ever more accessible to those who might be considering it,” said Dr Trevor Prendergast, head of TUS’s Department of Accounting and Business Computing.

The course requires no prior experience of data analytics and is suitable for those working in a wide array of industries, among them finance, manufacturing, HR management, science, engineering and sales.

“The field of data analytics is relevant to so many industries these days, we have had previous students on the programme coming from backgrounds as diverse as finance, political science and food production,” Dr Prendergast explained.

The funding agreement also part-covers the fees of learners enrolling on the January 2023 intake of TUS’s Postgraduate Diploma in Science in Digital Marketing, which will be delivered online one day per week.

“This funding provides potential students with the means to access and achieve a formal Level 9 qualification in digital marketing which provides a key skillset that is considered critical in the modern workplace,” said Dr Alison Sheridan, head of the Department of Business and Management at TUS.

“The course offers a very desirable combination of theory and practical skills which are of immediate use in a broad range of industry settings.”

Welcoming the partnership, Michael Lynch of MBE Skillnet said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for the network, and its member companies to partner with TUS’s Athlone campus on this MSc in Data Analytics and PgDip in Digital Marketing.”

He noted the partnership is in keeping with Skillnet Ireland Strategic Goals 2021 – 2025, under the Strategic Themes of Workforce Design: People Development and Strategic Innovation, which aims to support business transformation by investing in talent, building a skilled and agile workforce.

Applications for both programmes close Friday, December 9, 2022. Further information can be obtained by emailing business@ait.ie.
