Minister of State for Nature, Heritage & Electrical Reform Malcolm Noonan returned to his Alma Mater, Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) Thurles Campus this Monday, (January 29, 2024) to speak with students and staff about his career to date and the influence of his TUS education on his career and Government policy.
Welcoming the Minster, President of TUS Professor Vincent Cunnane highlighted the TU’s ongoing work in the area of Environmental Science and Agriculture, and how TUS graduates continue to set the environmental and agricultural agenda.
Minister Noonan agreed, telling students that a lot of the work he did during his six years studying in Tipperary Institute, now TUS, greatly influenced his contribution to the Programme for Government and the government agenda.
“What you have achieved here at the Thurles campus is significant,” he said, telling students, “I would encourage you to continue to ask questions and get involved, you have so much to contribute to our shared future.”
The Minister was accompanied by his Special Advisor Hannah Hamilton who is also a graduate of TUS having studied Environmental and Natural Resource Management a decade ago.
She told students, “You won’t realise until you leave here, the broad spectrum of what you have learnt and how it can be applied to your work and career, as well as helping you to inform policy and change. It is great to see, what we were studying and learning here in Thurles 10 years ago is now mainstream and being used every day.”
