Name: Kieth Walsh
Course: BSc (Hons) in Bioanalysis and Biotechnology
Brief description of your job: Lab Analyst – Stryker. My daily tasks involve testing raw materials and finished goods to allow for release of products.
Year Graduated: 2023
Why did you choose your course? I really enjoyed Biology in secondary school and decided to pick this course after going to the TUS open day and being shown around all the labs. How eager people were to help and show me around really drew me to TUS and from it being a heavily lab-based course, you get some really good training before going into the workplace.
What did you like most about your course? I really liked the lab work and doing my 4th year final year project. For the FYP I got to use the HPLC and set parameters based on trial and error, it was really enjoyable seeing what worked and what didn’t and being able to write up a thesis based on my own research and findings in the lab.
How has your degree helped you in your career? My degree has helped me with the lab technical skills, I think employers can see how strong the TUS graduate’s lab techniques are and it makes us more employable. The degree includes a broad range of topics so graduates can go into any science field that they are considering. My degree has enabled me to continue on studying to get my masters degree in TUS which will progress my career.
Anything you want to add? To anyone wanting to work in the medical device, pharmaceutical and food industry, I would definitely recommend this course.
