Brief description of your job: I work as a chemistry scientist at Johnson and Johnson Vision Care in Castletroy, Limerick. My role involves various aspects including quality control, quality assurance and problem-solving. The broad scope of my degree from TUS has equipped me with the skills required to take on a wide range of roles in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical/device industries. The communication and problem-solving skills I gained during my studies have been particularly valuable in my current position.
What did you most like about your course?
I particularly enjoyed the blend of labs and lectures during my time at TUS. The friendly and supportive staff, diverse subjects and the opportunity for work placement were also highlights. One of my favourite aspects of the course was getting to use a diverse range of analytical instrumentation. Relationships with my classmates also made the learning experience enjoyable and memorable.
What was your experience of the teaching and learning environment in TUS?
TUS provided an excellent teaching and learning environment where all of the lecturers were extremely approachable and helpful. The manageable class sizes allowed for personalized attention, and the well-equipped labs and tutorials enhanced the learning experience. The college’s canteen also had a great selection and was very affordable.
How was your work placement experience while on the course?
My work placement experience was very positive and played a crucial role in shaping my career. Not only did it provide practical application of what I learned in college, but it also directly led to securing a job upon graduation. My experience on work placement definitely enhanced my technical skills but also built upon my confidence.
How has your degree helped you in your career?
My academic credentials from TUS have played a pivotal role in shaping the success of my career. The adaptability of the degree allowed me to take on a variety of responsibilities including quality control, analytical testing and quality assurance.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying this course?
I would highly recommend this course at TUS. The employment opportunities are excellent and the dedicated staff ensure a quality learning experience. The inclusion of work placement, relatively small class sizes and great module selection provide all the skills necessary to succeed in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical/medical device industry. It’s a fantastic course that opens up many different career opportunities.
