This includes carrying out tasks such as addressing production concerns and downtime through troubleshooting of components, tooling, fixtures, and processes. I also implement productivity improvement projects and provide preventative maintenance on equipment in the production unit.

Why did you choose your course?

I chose this course as I had a great interest in the medical device industry and medical science. I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in the medical industry related to patient care and medical technology is a huge part of this. The course covered a wide variety of modules that would give plenty of job opportunities in this industry.

What do you like most about your course?

I like the balance between the theory and practical work in this course, we went on many site visits and got the opportunity to gain experience in 3rd year through work placement and project work which also prepared us for the final year thesis. With the variety of modules, it gives a great foundation to many subjects and an opportunity to specialise and study further into certain areas in Medical Technology.

Apart from your course what do you like most about TUS?

I loved the atmosphere in the building, especially on the street, there was always something going on.

How has your degree helped you in your career?

As a Manufacturing Technician covering a production unit in a Medical Device Manufacturing Company, this course had modules such as Medical Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Quality Assurance and Validation, and Medical Instrumentation and Calibration which gave me the knowledge and foundation I needed to suit me to this role.

Did you take part in any clubs and societies or any other programs while at TUS? How did you enjoy it?

I was a member of the Senior Camogie team in TUS. This gave great opportunities to meet other students and make friends with people outside my course. We also travelled a lot to other counties to compete and there was plenty of team bonding activities.

What advice would you give someone considering studying this course?

The completion of this course gives a huge variety of career opportunities in the quickly growing medical device industry. Classes were small which allowed us to have a close-knit group and with the dedication of our lectures it gave us a very enjoyable experience in TUS.
