Name: Denise Moloney

Course: Medical Technology

Year Graduated: 2022

Where are you currently working or studying: Pursuing a masters in Diagnostic Radiography at UCC.

Why did you choose your course?

I enjoy learning about human anatomy, physiology, and how medical technology is applied to patient care. I’ve always wanted to help others and have aimed to provide great patient care while using cutting-edge technologies.

What do you like most about your course?

I love that the course is multidisciplinary. We studied topics in physics, engineering, anatomy, math, biomechanics and biomaterials, standards and accreditation, and quality assurance among others. All of this has given us a diverse range of knowledge as we approach the field of medical devices.

Apart from your course, what do you like most about TUS?

I preferred my smaller class size. I was able to develop solid relationships with classmates because of the smaller class size. I never felt afraid to raise my hand in class and ask a question. The lectures were very helpful, and they provided insightful feedback on the assignments and exams.

How has your degree helped you in your career?

Having a degree in medical technology has fortunately allowed me to further my study in order to one-day work as a diagnostic radiographer.

Did you take part in any clubs and societies or any other programmes (such as Erasmus, etc.) while at TUS? How did you enjoy it?

I completed my work placement in Cook Medical during third year. I had the opportunity to see how medical devices like stents and drug-coated balloon stents were made while working in the Research and Development department. It was amazing!

What advice would you give someone considering studying this course?

The range of career options available with a degree in medical technology is huge. You can work in a variety of positions in the medical device industry with a degree in medical technology. The choice is yours!
