Climate Action Week 13th-22nd October

Green Week will officially be launched by TUS President Professor Vincent Cunnane at this webinar. This will be followed by a guest lecture from environmental journalist John Gibbons entitled “The Everything Emergency”.  This event is open to all TUS staff and students. Climate Fresk is an interactive and collaborative workshop on climate change. It helps participants understand the causes and effects of climate change and empowers them to take high-impact climate action. Training will be delivered by Sara Carroll from Waggle learning. The workshop is free for TUS staff and students. Places are limited. You can sign up HERE

Athlone Green Campus are wrapping up their Green Week with their 3rd Annual Green Week Symposium. With a range of sustainability experts from within and outside TUS, this event will have something for everyone. Speakers on the day include Irish environmentalist Duncan Stewart, Charlene Hurley from Cycle Up,  Zimbabwean climate activist Nomalanga Dube, Dr Noëlle O’Connor, Sean Connell, Nicola Ryan, Dr. Anne Marie O’Brien, Clara Keevey & Dr Mercedes Alonso-Gomez.

All the sustainability work we do is to protect our beautiful environment and that’s what this competition aims to celebrate. This exhibition will run from Monday until Thursday and feature posters of student sustainable education and research initiatives including work with Proudly Made in Africa, Stand and Vertical Tower Garden projects.

It kicks off with an Insect Hotel Making Workshop, and a Clothes Repair workshop by Zipyard, both at 10am followed by FREE refreshments at 11. Guest lecture for the Year 2 BSc in Applied Psychology module – Loss and Grief in Psychology but open to all interested staff and students.  Joanne Begley, social care worker, author and death doula will discuss her experiences in supporting people at the end of life.  The role of a doula, which is relatively new in Ireland, is linked to UN SDG 3 (health and wellbeing for all, at every stage of life).
