Academic Writing Centre – Athlone Campus

The Academic Writing Centre (AWC) is part of the Learning Support Unit at TUS – Midlands, offering a range of services available to all TUS students. If you are transitioning from second to third level, advancing in your studies, or facing into writing an assignment or dissertation for the first time, the AWC is here with support and guidance.

TUS students can avail of individual or group appointments, class workshops, and the AWC Moodle page is packed full of resources. The AWC also offer “Drop in” days where students can call to the office without an appointment.

Who are we?

The Academic Writing Centre (AWC) is based in TUS Midlands, is a resource dedicated to improving student’s performance and confidence in all areas of academic writing. We strive for excellence in every aspect of our engagement with students in the centre. Our Academic Writing Coordinator/Lecturer, Dr Miriam O’Connor, oversees the running of the AWC.

What does the Academic Writing Centre do?

We offer a range of services and supports pertaining to academic writing. These supports are available as workshops or individual tutorials. We cannot write your essay for you, but we can offer support and guidance, and practical examples to facilitate your work.

How can the Academic Writing Centre help you?

We will support and guide you with your writing, we have a vast array of resources which you can use at any time, you can book an appointment with us to meet in our office or online or you can avail of our “Drop in” days without an appointment.

We are also here to help with study skills, group work, self and time management. All you need to do is “ask” and we will support and guide you.

Where is the Academic Writing Centre located?

We are in Room D27 located on the “D” corridor, second door from main canteen on the Athlone Campus. We have a dedicated space that is conducive to group learning, while also offering privacy for one-to-one instruction.
